Wife of Cuban Prisoner in the U.S. Meets Canadian Activists

Adriana Perez, wife of Cuban anti-terrorist fighter Gerardo Hernandez, who is serving an unfair and extremely long prison term in the U.S., said that despite the separation they have been submitted to, they keep the firm will to be happy together one day, along their beloved ones.

Perez met in Vancouver with over one hundred Canadian activists supportive of Cuba, representatives of the United Steel Workers union (USW), and friends of Cuba, according to Prensa Latina news agency.

The woman gave details about the injustice being committed against Hernández, Ramón Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando González and René González, internationally known as the Cuban Five. She call for an intensification of solidarity with the cause of her husband and his compatriots as a way to have President Barack Obama to use his powers and release the anti-terrorist fighters.

Perez called for the support of Canadian lawmakers, unionists and all persons who wish to join the struggle for the release of the Cuban Five.

The meeting was attended by Cuban ambassador to Canada Julio Garmendia, who said that achieving the return to the island of the five Cubans is a priority of the Cuban government and the people.

Ken Newman, president of the United Steel Workers expressed his unioin’s compromise to reinforce actions to gather more voices in Canada to achieve the freedom of the five heroes.

Adriana Perez will also visit other cities, such as Ottawa and Toronto to meet with members of the Cuban community in Canada, parliamentarians and members of solidarity organizations.
