Las Cinco Mentiras de Baracoa…

October 16, 2016

WISE Up Action - A Solidarity Network for Manning and Assange

Screen Shot 2014-06-24 at 12.26.55Political Asylum, Arbitrary Detention.

Julian Assange will remain in UK and Swedish history as the individual whose rights were trampled upon by states drunk in their own power. He was put through an extradition process in the UK whose decision has consequently been found to be in error by the UK Supreme Court, was arrested on a warrant found unjust by Parliament who legislated against it, was granted political asylum to protect his life and work from political persecution, was found to be arbitrarily detained by the highest authority in the world in such matters, UNWGAD, still he has not benefitted from all these developments. Politics is what keep him in his current state.

There is no justice when basic human rights are trampled upon to serve the prestige of an unfair judicial system and its representatives, a system without Human Rights bar, without oversight. Neither is justice done when legal process…

10 #WikiLeaks Years – Solidarity with Julian #Assange

October 10, 2016

WISE Up Action - A Solidarity Network for Manning and Assange

WikiLeaks has published 10 million documents over the last 10 years — an average of 3,000 documents per day. What are the top 10?

To celebrate WikiLeaks’ achievements over the last 10 years, a contingency of the Solidarity Vigil gathered outside the Ecuadorian Embassy in London, commemorating the publishing organisation’s 10th Birthday. With a cake, Birthday wishes, and special guest @EmbassyCat, an inspiration in counterpurveillance, we stood outside the place of refuge for the WikiLeaks Editor Julian Assange, enjoying the solidarity action, standing in support with a simple message: “Thank you WikiLeaks” for the gifts of knowledge, the inspiration, the bravery and for the sacrifice you have endured.

Julian Assange has spent 6 years of his life caught in a web of political persecution. A legal case in Sweden, politicised and unjust keeps him detained, a detention deemed Arbitrary by the United Nations Working Group of Arbitrary detention in February…

Fair Play! Building solidarity with revolutionary Cuba (1960-1970)

October 8, 2016

John Riddell

cuba-flagThe triumph of the Cuban revolution in 1959 gave rise to widespread solidarity work in the U.S. and Canada, organized through Fair Play for Cuba committees. Two participants in this experience report here on its scope and lessons.

John Riddell and Suzanne Weiss gave the following joint talk on the work of Fair Play for Cuba on July 31, 2016, at a conference of Ideas Left Outside at Elbow Lake, Ontario. For other writings on Fair Play for Cuba, see below.

John Riddell: On September 2, 1960, one million Cubans gathered in Havana in a General Assembly of the Cuban people to hear and approve Cuba’s reply to U.S. attacks on its sovereignty. This statement, known as the First Declaration of Havana, pledged Cuba to nothing less than a hemispheric struggle for freedom from U.S. domination.
