No existe oposición en Cuba, afirma Martha Beatriz Roque

April 30, 2016

Brazil is extending for a further three years its “More Doctors” program (Programa Mais Médicos), which has brought thousands of foreign doctors—mostly Cubans—to a country in dire need of medical professionals, a government spokesperson said Friday.

The program, which aims to bring in more than 15,000 doctors a year to fill staff shortages in the country’s publically funded health system, imports medical professionals from abroad with the bulk coming from Cuba.

According to Brazil’s former health minister, Arthur Chioro, Cuban doctors now work in more than 70 percent of Brazil’s cities, and many of the countries remote communities.

Brazil has around 1.9 doctors per thousand people, according to World Bank figures in what’s one of the lowest doctor to population ratios in the world. Comparatively, Cuba has around 6.7 doctors per thousand people, the world’s highest number of doctors per capita.

The program was started by the Brazilian government to boost the number of doctors working in remote areas…

Gradually increasing the population’s purchasing power in the short term

April 27, 2016

NYC Havana Blog

Air pollution is a phenomenon with a broad impact on human health and one of the greatest environmental issues facing the world.

Leading organizations recognize that the inhalation of pollutants, especially fine particles, represents a risk to the respiratory and cardiovascular systems, as well as impacting on other conditions.

Air pollution also jeopardizes the vitality of ecosystems and endangers flora and fauna. One of the biggest effects of this phenomenon is climate change, causing increased average temperatures.

With vast experience in air pollution studies, Cuba has conducted various projects and local and regional studies which go beyond mathematical calculations, to address the wider effects on the health of the most vulnerable sectors of the population.

Venezuela and Brazil are the scenes of a new form of coup d’état that would set the continent’s political calendar back to its worst times. Meanwhile, in Argentina, the brutal model for the demolition of democracy is set forward by the continental oligarchic right and the hegemonic forces of US imperialism who wish to impose their model in the region.

dilma nicolas y crstina.jpgAs we can see in the previews that test the memory of the peoples in the continent, it is difficult to accept that the new types of coups are actually softer and more covert than those which Latin America suffered for so long.

No less cruel

What has been shown so far in Argentina is no less cruel, in terms of contempt for the masses, than the coups carried out by the bloodthirsty dictatorships that sprouted in time of Operation Condor.

Cuba: no retornar al capitalismo jamás. Por  Ángel Guerra Cabrera

April 22, 2016

Cuban Foreign Ministry condemns parliamentary coup in Brazil

April 18, 2016

NYC Havana Blog

Sectors of the right wing representing the oligarchy, in alliance with the reactionary press in Brazil, openly supported by the corporate media and imperialism, have consummated in the country’s House of Deputies the first step in what constitutes a parliamentary coup d’etat against the legitimate government of the Workers’ Party (PT) and President Dilma Rousseff, which has been in the works for several months.

This is an attack, based on unproven accusations with no legal foundation, on Brazilian democracy and the legitimacy of a government which was elected at the polls by a majority of the people, as has been denounced by the head of state and by former President and PT leader, Luiz Inacio “Lula” Da Silva, and by numerous leaders of left wing political parties and Brazilian social movements.

Since 2003, the year in which the first Workers Party government led by Lula took office, important social programs…
