Cuba Slams U.S. Radio-Electric Aggression in Geneva

February 3, 2012

(Prensa Latina) The World Radiocommunication Conference on Thursday reaffirmed the illegal nature of the radio and television aggressions that the United States has maintained against Cuba.

With an overwhelming support from the international community, the Cuban initiative was approved without any vote, stated a press release from the Permanent Cuban Delegation in Geneva.

Wilfredo Lopez, head of the Cuban delegation to the Conference and director of regulations and rules at the Cuban Ministry of Informatics and Communications, denounced at the forum the increase in interferences caused by U.S. radio aggression.

Over 20 broadcasting transmitters from different audio services have broadcast over 2,000 hours weekly of anti-Cuban programs from U.S. territory, including the execution of terrorist actions, Lopez said.

The World Radiocommunication Conference approved Cuba’s initiative of monitoring and informing in its next meeting in 2015, on interferences caused by the United States to cuban radio and television services.

This decision confirms the conclusion adopted in the previous meeting held in 2007, where the illegality of these aggressions was recognized.

At that time, participants stated that a broadcasting station that works from a plane and transmits only to another country without its consent is against the broadcast rules.

The Cuban representative said in his speech that his country will continue defending all its attributes of sovereignty, including the administration of its own radio-electric frequencies.
