South Journal—Congress women, Dem. Barbara Lee and Dem. Laura Richardson, both from California, met Friday morning with members of the Cuban Children´s Theater Company “La Colmenita” in Capitol Hill.

Company director Carlos Alberto Cremata and several children with “La Colmenita” had a phone conversation with Gerardo Hernandez, one of the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters held in the U.S. The children also performed and played songs at the Cuban Interest Section in Washington.

The children´s company is on a one-month tour of the U.S. with performances in the cities of New York, Washington and San Francisco. Twenty two boys and girls, whose age range from 6 to 15 years, make up the collective performing for the US people.

The company was founded in February 1990 in Cuba and has 21 branches in different Cuban territories. Cremata says that the whole project now includes some 14 000 children in Cuba.

“La Colmenita” Children´s Company, declared Good-Will ambassador by UNICEF in 2007, will offer a special performance at the UN headquarters on October 24.
